East Rutherford – The Jets practiced at “The Met” on Tuesday night, and here are some notes and observations from the proceedings . . .
The Jets answer at right tackle might be in Florham Park.
And he’s on the roster already.
Matt Slauson can move to right tackle, and Caleb Schlauderaff can start at left guard.
As a sophomore at Nebraska, Slauson started 11 games at right tackle.
As a freshman, he started the last three games of the season at right tackle (and the Cornhuskers went 3-0).
As a junior he bounced around at several positions, including right tackle.
As a senior he moved to guard.
So the guy has plenty of experience at right tackle, and at 6-5, 315, ideal size for the spot.
As for Schlauderaff, he was a four-year starter at left guard at Utah, at that is his best position. He’s a better left guard than a center . . .
I was standing right next to where Jordan White caught a touchdown pass from Tim Tebow on a square out on the goal-line.
The guy runs great routes. I don’t remember the corner on this play, but White ran such a great route, he left the guy three yards behind him, and this was a short route . . .
One of the better receptions on the night was a back shoulder throw from Tebow to Jeff Cumberland down the right seam. Josh Mauga had decent coverage, and Tebow threw it the only place he could for a reception, and Cumberland did a nice job twisting his body back for the catch . . .
Dustin Keller had a really nice practice.
But it always needs to be pointed out, that when the tight ends make a lot of plays, that means the coverage needs work, just like last year.
On a deep pass down the right side, Keller got behind Yeremiah Bell.
Josh Bush was starting with Eric Smith (knee) and LaRon Landry (pitch count) out. Bush struggled on a few plays covering tight ends tonight. He doesn’t have the ideal size for that particular job at 5-11 . . .
Most people in the press room theorized that Wayne Hunter wasn’t at the stadium practice to spare him from the fans.
Rex Ryan denied this . . .
As they say, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”
Chris Mortensen is represented by Jimmy Sexton, who also has Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano.
Mortensen was by a fan on twitter if the Jets are looking to sign a free agent, or make a trade to replace Wayne Hunter?
“Yes, no longer in denial,” Mortensen tweeted back.
Mortensen doesn’t throw crap out there. He got this from somebody in the know. And considering he has the same agent as Rex and Tony, he’s got a great pipeline in Florham Park . . .
Quinton Coples continues to impress as a pass rusher. He beat Brandon Moore and Austin Howard for pressures . . .
Any long shots that make the team might not be around for long.
Mike Tannenbaum told the AP, Labor Day is “our mini-draft.”
He always likes to make a lot of claims. It’s part of his master plan, so dreams can be short-lived in Florham Park.
And quite honestly, in his seven seasons as Jets GM, he doesn’t have a lot to show for his myriad waiver claims around Labor Day . . .
