Florham Park – It clearly wasn’t the best practice for the Jets offense today, marred by QB-center exchange issues.
But two plays in a row, in the middle of the practice, were illustrative of QB Aaron Rodgers’ impressive football acumen, which should be a boon to the Jets offense this year.
Both plays involved hot reads with Rodgers getting blitzed.
First, linebacker Quincy Williams, came free blitzing up the middle, and Rodgers calmly hit his hot-read, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, on a shallow cross.
And then, linebacker Sam Eguavoen also blitzed up the middle, and Rodgers again calmly hit a hot-read, running back Breece Hall over the short middle.
Neither one of these plays would make the highlight real, but people should keep in mind that the last few years, hot-read throws to counter blitzes have not been a strength of the Jets.
And the only way you get opponents to stop blitzing a lot is to consistently burn them by hitting hot-reads.
Rodgers did this effectively on two plays in a row.
Yes, these plays didn’t go for the longest gains.
However, they were two terrific QB plays.
