This QB story might have been blown a little out of proportion . . .

QB Russell Wilson has retired from the NFL to join CBS Sports.

There were rumors that Wilson was deciding between being the Jets’ backup QB and joining CBS Sports.

On Tuesday, Jets coach Aaron Glenn was asked how Wilson’s decision would impact their backup QB search.

“Nothing at all,” Glenn said. “I think the last time we talked, I had said that we were looking at number of quarterbacks and, listen, that’s just what it was.”

On April 8, Glenn was asked about the team’s reported interest in Wilson as their backup.

“Yeah, listen, and I’ve said this several times, that me and Moug (Darren Mougey), we’re always going to go through a process on how we can improve the team, and sometimes when you do that, I think it becomes a bigger issue than what it really is,” Glenn said.

Sounds like Glenn feels some of the media insiders might have embellished the Jets’ interest level in Wilson. It sounds like they were doing their due diligence on several candidates, and Wilson was one of them.

“We’re talking to a number of veteran quarterbacks,” Glenn said on April 8.

Were the Jets interested in Wilson as a possible backup QB? Perhaps.

But it sounds like they are also considering others, including people in-house.

So to say Wilson’s decision was between the Jets and CBS might have been a bit hyperbolic.

But now, Jets antagonists in the media can say that Wilson chose broadcasting over the Jets.

And that angle might be a little bit of a stretch.
