It really means very little
but Zach Wilson reportedly had a rough practice today.
Now some of you might wonder why I’m saying he “reportedly” had a rough practice today, when I was there.
Because I don’t know what he’s be asked to do on some of these plays. I don’t know if receivers are in the wrong spots when he’s making a throw. Remember, there are a lot of young receivers here, also trying to figure out what they are doing.
So no, I don’t know if he had a rough practice, because I don’t view these practices like some other observers. I view this as a classroom where players, like Wilson, are learning the system, getting on the same page with teammates, working on conditioning and so forth.
It’s probably not entirely fair to be keeping stats at these practices.
Wilson threw a couple of picks, but who cares?
In Miami today, Tua Tagovailoa reportedly threw five picks in Dolphins minicamp practice.
“You want to be smart, if there’s a time to make mistakes now is the time,” said Tagovailoa.
Exactly. This is the time to year to learn and experiment. This isn’t the time of year for style points . . .
We kind of knew this going in, but the spring has shown us over and over again that WR Elijah Moore and RB Michael Carter are both explosive athletes/playmakers – both have an abundance of quick twitch athleticism. You can almost see the explosion of Moore in the photo above . . .
Watching the Jets work today, and all the reps the players got, especially the young ones, I think teams that cancelled minicamp, caving to veteran players, were misguided, especially the team’s with first-year coaches, like Philadelphia and Houston.
There is so much to get out of these kind of practices, without pads, especially mental reps. There was so much teaching of the system and techique today in Florham Park.
Very beneficial to the players, and nobody got hurt, at least that we saw . . .
Keelan Cole isn’t a flashy player, not the biggest or fastest receiver, but he consistently gets open and has really good hands – very consistent . . .
Marcus Maye and Ashtyn Davis, who didn’t practice all spring, were on the practice field today, but didn’t do any work. Maye didn’t work all spring because he’s want a new contract, and Davis is coming off a serious foot injury.
Saw them working on mental stuff on the sideline with safety coach Marquand Manuel . . .
Chuma Edoga hasn’t practiced in a while after suffering what looked like a knee injury a few weeks ago in an OTA practice. He was in rehab area today.
Guard Alex Lewis was back with the team today. He wasn’t at the OTAs, at least the ones that the media attended.
Remember, he had an argument with Adam Gase last year, and got suspended, and not put on the non-football injury list. This off-season he took a paycut, and will make $2 million this year.
With the selection of USC guard Alijah Vera-Tucker in the first round of the draft, some wonder what role Lewis will have. He was the left guard before his suspension last year, and now Vera-Tucker is going to be the left guard.
But you look at the injuries to Mekhi Becton, Edoga and even rookie Tristan Hoge, you see how important it is to have quality depth on the offensive line. These big guys get dinged all the time. Just ask last year’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Lewis could provide a very good depth player, with his ability to play guard and tackle.
