It’s time for a dose of Monday Night Jets Whispers from Jets Confidential Publisher Dan Leberfeld. Sign up now. Don’t miss one more nugget . . .
The Jets dodged a bullet with the Marcus Williams’ knee injury.
In fact, they haven’t ruled out him playing this week.
And they need him, he might be their best corner.
I’m not being disrespectful, just dealing with reality.
Talking to him yesterday, he didn’t seem too concerned about the injury.
One thing that should help the Jets corners, whoever they are, is the state of the Giants’ offensive line. It’s a disaster area.
Last week they were without center Weston Richburg and left guard Justin Pugh.
It’s unclear if either one will play this week. It’s too early to tell.
And then yesterday, they lost their right guard, Mitchell Schwartz, for the season, to a leg injury.
So it’s entirely possible they will be without the entire interior of their offensive line, against one of the most talented defensive lines in football. This could get really ugly for Eli Manning.
And be very helpful to the Jets’ cover guys, who won’t likely have to hold up in space for that long, with Manning pressed for time . . .
When Darrelle Revis returns, the Jets should handle him like the Patriots did – let him cover the other team’s #2 receiver. Yes, that is often what happened last year.
So why a year later, and a year older, would the Jets put him on the other team’s #1 with little or no help?
It doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Let him cover the other team’s #2 and give him safety help at times, and he should be fine.
Stop living in 2009 . . .
There are too many people in the press bringing up the 2011 Jets-Giants game.
They are asking players about it, and in general, making too many references.
It’s totally irrelevant. Both team’s rosters have turned over a lot since then, and in the case of the Jets, they have a different coaching staff; that 2011 game has nothing to do with Sunday.
And the people who are obsessed with that angle, don’t get it.
Bill Parcells used to get mad a reporters for bringing up games from the year before because he felt they were irrelevant.
We are going to bring up a game from four years ago? . . .
As most of you know by now, former Jets running back Matt Snell, didn’t attend his Ring-of-Honor induction on Sunday.
He’s got a beef with the organization.
But it’s unfair to call him a “bitter old man” as some have.
That isn’t accurate.
His issues with the organization are not a new matter, and didn’t kick in later in life.
He’s been mad at them for 40 years.
So the “bitter old man” angle is unfair.
From my understanding, his anger with the club was connected to never giving him the time of day when he was looking to get into coaching or scouting.
I could be wrong, but that is what I’ve always heard.
It just seemed like over the years, the Giants would hire a lot more of their former players than the Jets.
And quite honestly, the Jets had a lot of nepotism in their hiring practices.
None of Snell’s anger has anything to do with the current regime. So Snell isn’t mad at Todd Bowles or Mr. Coffee.
The issues are with past regimes. Obviously Snell isn’t looking to get into coaching or scouting now.
So once again, that is why the “bitter old man” angle is bogus.
