After veteran nose tackle Steve McLendon re-signed with the Jets on March 14, he got a call from the team’s new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
“He told me ‘congratulations’ and that he’s ready to get to work,” McLendon said recently on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “He said he understands how I feel about a championship.”
McLendon didn’t come back just to play another season, he wants to win a championship.
“I play this game to try and win a championship,” McLendon said. “You don’t want to be 50-50, win this week, lose [the next] week. That is not how I am.”
McLendon said Williams totally agrees with him and told the nose tackle, “I’m with you on that.”
And according to McLendon, Williams said to him, “I’m coming in here with one single focus to help this team bring a Lombardi (Trophy) here.”
