Florham Park – In this first practice back . . .
. . . from a hamstring injury, rookie free agent cornerback Kyron Brown picked up where he left off with a Pick Six and a nice PD on a crossing route.
He has something you can’t teach – instincts. He also has good study habits, which helps as well . . .
Two plays in a row today you saw the skill set of Leonard Williams on display.
First, he beat center Ryan Kalil with tremendous quickness into a gap for a QB pressure on Sam Darnold. On the very next play, he showed his great speed for a 300-pounder, chasing Sam Darnold to the right sideline and the QB threw the pass away. So he had QB pressures on back-to-back plays.
“He makes other team play us differently,” said Adam Gase . . .
In today’s practice, Quincy Enunwa beat Darryl Roberts for a TD in a red zone drill, and also hauled in a deep crossing route against the corner.
With all due respect, and this isn’t easy to say, but I just don’t see starter traits. Fourth corner and core special team’s player – absolutely . . .
Taylor Bertolet looked good again today in practice. He seems to be in a good groove right now after practicing well last week, kicking well against New Orleans, and now today’s practice.
Kudos to the Jets for not pulling the plug after that rough game in Atlanta. Keep in mind, he had not kicked with a team since the preseason of 2018 with the Jets. He needed to get his sea legs back, so to speak. In this instant gratification society, people are so quick to want to throw players in the dumpster after a bad outing. But sometime if you show a little patience, it pays off. We will see how this goes moving forward, but he looks very confident and consistent out there now. And the guy has a heck of a leg . . .
Jets special team’s coach Brant Boyer ripped his unit (not the kickers) a new one today. He was livid at the mistakes they were making today and in the last game.
You know, this is what happens in the preseason on special teams when the roster is at 90. You are rotating so many guys in and out, and a lot of the young guys don’t know what they’re doing yet, and it can lead to a lot of ugly special teams . . .
He is on the bubble, but I’m 100 percent convinced guard Ben Braden can play in the league. I have now watched him for a couple of summers. The guy is a powerhouse who forklifts defenders and is really tough. He had a terrific block on Nathan Shepherd on a run up the middle today. If you ever saw him up-close physically, you would say to yourself, “That is what an NFL guard should look like.” . . .
Today in practice you saw what a mismatch Le’Veon Bell can be on linebackers in the passing game. He ran a quick out and got easy separation from C.J. Mosley and easily snared the pass from Darnold. Mosley is a heck of a linebacker, but even he has issues dealing with Bell’s quick cutting ability. Bell isn’t just a good receiving back, but has the receiving skills of a top-shelf RECEIVER.
