Jets Country – Dan Leberfeld checks in from the heart of Jets Country with a heaping helping of Whispers. Let’s go, go, go . . .
Marty Morhinweg seemed out of it today at his press conference – very tired.
He’s burning the candle at both ends preparing for this very tough game . . .
Aaron Rodgers is a superstar QB, but his one shortcoming is that he holds the ball too long, and this is could benefit the Jets’ front seven . . .
The Packers have had a terrible few seasons in the injury department.
Last year, 11 starters missed a total of 58 games, and 21 backups combined to miss 158 games.
And the way things are going this year, it looks like a big problem this season as well.
The Packers will likely be without center J.C. Tretter and right tackle Brian Bulaga this week. Also, middle linebacker Brad Jones has a quad injury and might not play, and nose tackle B.J. Raji is out for the season.
The Packers’ outstanding left guard, Josh Sitton, is getting fed up.
“Happens every year man,” Sitton said. “We have dealt with this for a while around here, and it’s unfortunate, man, but it seems to happen every year. As bad as it sounds, I’m kind of used to it.” . . .
The Jets got some bad news today – running back Eddie Lacy is playing.
True, the Jets are excellent against the run, but Lacy is special. He had a terrific rookie year (Offensive Rookie of the Year), and is a bear to deal with, at 5-10, 230 with good speed, quickness, power and a great spin move.
Lacy is the best running back the Packers have had in some time, and when they establish the run with him, it makes Rodgers almost impossible to stop . . .
Rodgers is on his fifth center in four years . . .
With Dee Milliner returning this week, the Jets released CB Leon McFadden today.
The reason the Jets kept Phillip Adams over McFadden as the fifth corner, is that he’s a lot more experienced, and McFadden is a MAJOR work in progress . . .
With an open roster spot, the Jets might consider promoting Jeremiah George from their practice squad, since their current backup ILB situation is precarious. A.J. Edds won’t play this week due a pulled hamstring, and Nick Bellore is playing with calf injury . . .
Rex Ryan is constantly asked by reporters when Jace Amaro will be more involved.
I don’t get the obsession with this.
I have been watching this player all spring and summer, and I don’t think he’s an upgrade over Jeff Cumberland or Zach Sudfeld. At least not at this time.
I think he can help the Jets, and be a solid player, but I think the hype is a little much. I don’t see a transcendent talent . . .
Geno Smith’s challenge this week is so much tougher than last week, it’s not even funny.
The Packers have a quartet of defenders that are going to make it very tough on him – two good corners (Tramon Williams and Sam Shields) to go along with two very good edge pass rushers (Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers). You combine that with deafening crowd noise, and a defensive game plan that the Packers had 10 days to prepare, Smith has quite a challenge ahead of him . . .
