Jets coach Robert Saleh said on Wednesday: “The only way you can defeat adversity is to look inward and find ways to be your personal best.”
Maybe Zach Wilson is being his personal best. Just like maybe Justin Fields is being his personal best in Chicago.
Looking inward likely can’t make you go through your progressions better and help you diagnose complex defensive schemes.
Neither can confirmation bias.
Playing QB in the NFL is really, really hard.
“There’s nothing stronger than affirmation, and you get affirmation by going out and continually doing your job to the best of your ability,” Saleh said.
Maybe Wilson is doing his job to the best of his ability. The problem isn’t a lack of effort.
Once again, it’s a really, really hard job, and that is why most drafted quarterbacks struggle on the NFL level.
Compared to college, the windows to throw into are a lot smaller and the defenses a lot more complex on the NFL level.
Playing QB in the NFL is probably the hardest job in all of professional sports.
That is why there is such a high attrition rate at the position.
