While the Jets offense needs to play a lot better than they did against Green Bay if this team wants to make a Super Bowl run, you do have to give Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers a lot of credit.
He’s one of the game’s best defensive minds, and he brought his A-Game on Sunday in Green Bay’s 9-0 shutout over Gang Green.
“You’ve got to give our opponent a lot of credit,” Rex Ryan said. “Dom Capers is an outstanding coordinator. Green Bay just made more plays than we did. [Capers] played one coverage on first and second down, but they did a good job with
eight (or) sometimes nine guys coming down there to play the run. I thought they played that much more effectively then they had been doing this season. They did a good job of moving with their front. You’ve got to give them credit. We’ve got to be able to take advantage on the outside if people are going to load it up like that. We have the playmakers outside. We just have to execute better.”
Also helping Capers’ strategy of putting eight, nine guys in the box was the terrible wind conditions. It was not a great day to throw the football, so that certainly helped a “loading up the box” approach.
