A few things to go over coming out of the Jets’ win over Buffalo at New Era Stadium in Western New York . . .
What Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chan Gailey are doing utilizing Quincy Enunwa a great deal in the first two games is brilliant.
With all the attention Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are receiving, Quincy is constantly getting linebacker coverage, or favorable single cornerback coverage, and the Jets are taking advantage of it.
This is quintessential “take what the defense is giving you.”
And it continued after Enunwa left the game in the third quarter, after aggravating a rib injury that he suffered in Week One. Jalin Marshall had two big catches – one in the red zone right before Matt Forte’s TD run and then down the left sideline on the drive that resulted in a field goal to make 30-24 . . .
Leonard Williams had a huge game in Week One, and was must quieter in Week Two.
Williams dominated Bengals center Russell Bodine last year. Eric Wood is a much better center . . .
Sheldon Richardson was somewhat quiet tonight in his debut, but man did he have a huge play in the fourth quarter, stopping the runner for no gain on fourth-and-one in the middle of the fourth quarter. He shred guard Jim Groy to stop the runner and then showed tremendous will not allowing the runner to go forward, winning the wrestling match . . .
Good night for John Idzik – Quincy Enunwa, Eric Decker, Brent Qvale, Ben Ijalana and Marcus Williams.
I’m not putting Idzik in Canton, but give credit where credit is due . . .
The Bills $100 million nose tackle Marcell Dareus is selfish and screwed his team because he couldn’t stop smoking pot and was suspended the first four games.
On both Matt Forte TD runs the undersized nose tackle, Korbin Bryant, filling in for him, was mauled by Nick Mangold, and there was a big hole up the middle . . .
I did a couple of radio show today, one in Hartford and one in Houston, and said the Jets can’t put Revis on guys who run 4.3 because he can’t run with them.
I’m not claiming to be smarter than the coaches, but did you know that Marquise Goodwin ran a 4.27 forty at the combine, one of the fastest times ever. He almost qualified for the Rio Olympics.
So how do you have Revis, who has lost a step, one-on-one, with no help, on Goodwin, on a fly route?
I know some people would say I’m nitpicking, since the cry all week was that Revis shouldn’t always cover the other team’s #1 receiver.
I get that.
But is the solution to that have him cover a guy who runs 4.27? That is a head-scratcher to me. Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman saw that, and went right after him. Tyrod Taylor threw an 84-yard TD, the longest completion at home in Bills history.
We often defer to the coaches and say they are paid to do this, and who are we to question them.
But man, if I’m smart enough to know they can’t put Revis on guys who run 4.3 (or faster in this case), then coaches should know that . . .
