Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty doesn’t seem to have a lot of respect for a New York Jets’ run defense he will be facing on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
“I think we can definitely get the run game going, get back on track, and just really get after these guys,” Jeanty said. “Couple of guys out there that don’t really want to tackle, but I’m not going to say names.”
Raiders coach Klint Kubiak, a man of few words, could not have been thrilled with this quote because it provided bulletin board fodder for the Jets defense.
But while the running back’s comments were probably ill-advised, it’s hard to argue with the first part of his quote based on what the Jets’ run defense has put on film, like giving up 156 yards rushing against Miami last week, and some other rough run defense games, like in Chicago, when they gave up 232 yards on the ground.
As for guys not wanting to tackle, not sure who he is talking about.
The Jets’ issues don’t seem to be a lack of effort or toughness, but more that some guys perhaps are bad scheme fits for a 3-4 defense.
But you’d have to think Mr. Kubiak had a little chat with Mr. Jeanty in his office after these comments surfaced.
Sometimes 22-year-old people say things they might not say at 32.
