The Jets have had some departures from their football staff since the end of the season.
On February 23, ESPN’s Rich Cimini tweeted: “Another departure: Rob Dadona, who served as the assistant to the head coach since 2021, was named yesterday as the Falcons’ manager of coaching operations. Saleh’s two behind-the-scenes assistants, Dadona and (Steve) Scarnecchia, now in Atlanta with Raheem Morris.”
I don’t mean this to be flippant, and I’m sure these are fine men, but the Jets have 18-33 under Robert Saleh during his three years as coach.
So if his “two behind-the-scenes assistants” leave, is that going to knock the Jets world off it’s axis?
Maybe it will be a good thing for Saleh to have two different guys as his “behind the scenes assistants,” some new voices in his ear, with some different ideas, moving forward,
I’m not looking to cast aspersions on these two men, who I have never met, but maybe a change is good for both sides.
The Jets also moved on from their running back and wide receiver coaches.
Is that a bad big deal considering how awful their offense was last year?
Once again, not blaming these two men for how bad the Jets offense was last year, but when an offense is that bad, some changes are usually made.
Some people want to paint a picture here, create a narrative, that considering the struggles in Florham Park, people are “abandoning ship.”
I just don’t see it that way.
Changes were needed, if people leaving for other jobs is how that change happens, then so be it.
It’s possible some of these people wanted out. Hey, that can happen at any company.
According to The Athletic, the team’s owner brought suggestions from social media to coaches on how to fix the offense.
Some people might not like working in a place where that might go on. Some might like that, some might be turned off by that.
Ira and Chris need to try to convince the owner to perhaps avoid doing stuff like that, if it indeed happened. That wild stuff, if it happened.
Would love to see somebody ask the owner about that, but it likely won’t happen. Times have changed.
However, whatever you think of the owner perhaps suggesting offensive plays based on social media, let’s put that aside for a second.
It’s probably best to make some changes after going 4-13, 7-9 and 7-9 as a staff.
Maybe they can hire some people who don’t believe in making excuses.
Not saying any of the men who left were excuse-makers, but excuse-making seems to be an issue.
According to The Athletic, after Aaron Rodgers got hurt, Saleh did research and found that Bill Belichick, John Harbaugh, Mike McDaniel, and Kyle Shanahan, all had losing records after losing their quarterback.
Did his “two behind-the-scenes assistants” help him with this research?
I have no idea, but whoever he hires as his “two behind-the-scenes assistants” need to help him change his messaging a little, behind the scenes and in public, and avoid things like saying: “We beat three playoff teams. We exercised a lot of demons this year” after going 7-10.
Things need to change, so staff changes aren’t the end of the world.
