At the end of the first series, on third-and-seven from the 7, Trevor Siemian threw a fade into the red zone of the end zone, to Garrett Wilson, and it was broken up by fullback Kendall Fuller.
In the second quarter, on third-and-nine, from the 9, Siemian threw a pass into the middle of the end zone to Tyler Conklin that was incomplete.
Both situations they had to settle for field goals.
One thing I don’t get is why they won’t throw to 6-5, 227-pound Allen Lazard in the red zone more, especially on fade routes.
He’s very good on contested passes.
Garrett Wilson is a heck of a player, but he’s 6-0, 183 pounds – why keep throwing fades to him? Well let’s put it this way, throw fades to Wilson, but also throw them to Lazard.
It makes zero sense not to use Lazard as a weapon in the red zone more, or on sideline fade routes.
Lazard finished today’s game with no catches.
Fans can hate on him all they want, and he seems to be the doghouse with a lot of fans, but for goodness sake, how about throwing him more passes that fit his skill set, and that includes fades in the red zone.
People can write off Lazard all they want, but when Rodgers comes back, I think he will be fine. Rodgers knows how to use this players skill set effectively. . .
The Washington Commanders’ running game shouldn’t have been as effective as it was today, when you consider, they were without their starting center (Tyler Larsen), left tackle (Charles Leno), and lost right tackle (Andrew Wylie) early in the game.
The Commanders finished the game with 22 carries for 102 yards and three touchdowns rushing.
How does that happen with three offensive linemen out, and I forgot to mention, they were also without their starting running back, Brian Robinson.
The Jets’ pass rush and pass coverage have been very good most of the season season, and were today, but after the season, the Jets are going to deep a deep dive into how to fix this run defense.
Their goalline run defense is a big problem, because of the size of the guys who are often out there. The Commanders had a 1-yard TD run by Chris Rodriquez and a 2-yard TD run by Antonio Gibson, both in eh fourth quarter.
When was the last time the Jets had a goalline stand?
It just seems like when teams get close to the goalline, they get easy rushing touchdowns, with their offensive lines winning the battle of the trenches.
Jets coaches and personnel department need to do some extensive self-scouting of their run defense this off-season.
Sometimes you see who is out there on a third or fourth and short on the defensive line, and look at their size, and wonder, how the heck are the Jets going to win these short yardage situations. . . .
On Saturday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted, “Sources say there is no indication that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson will make a change in the team’s leadership following the end of the 2023 season, a signal that both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas will be back next year.”
Then on Sunday, the New York Post had a “blockbuster” story.
“Jets owner Woody Johnson told The Post on Sunday that general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh will return for the 2024 season,” wrote Brian Costello.
I have no understanding of where this story came from.
Whoever said they were in trouble.
Late in the season, the media likes to speculate, in a lot of cities, which coaches and GMs might be on the proverbial “hot seat.”
But who the hell thought the Jets were going to fire Saleh and Douglas, especially after the Aaron Rodgers injury in week one?
Why were the stories over the weekend necessary?
Are you reacting to a made-up story by the media?
Maybe this has to do with something Rodgers said recently.
“Some may be influenced by fans and pundits a little more than I’m used to,” Rodgers said.
