It happened against New England and Denver.
Talking about tight end late releases off the line resulting in wide-open touchdown passes.
In New England’s 15-10 win over the Jets in September, tight end Pharaoh Brown caught a 58-yard TD pass He snuck out late and got behind the last line of defense for a wide-open TD.
In the Jets’ 31-21 win over Denver, Broncos tight end Adam Trautman snuck off the right side of the line and caught a wide-open 3-yard TD pass.
Something similar happened in the Jets’ loss to Detroit last season.
The problem is perhaps related to the Jets’ attacking style of defense. They want their guys flying to the ball, pursuing sideline-to-sideline.
Sometimes, when you have a super-aggressive approach like this, delayed releases can create a challenge, and tight ends, who delay their release, can slip behind attacking linebackers or safeties.
Whatever the cause, the Jets need to nip this issue in the bud.
