Jets offensive line coach Keith Carter is being attacked on social media by some players (like Taylor Lewan) and fans.
No doubt the Jets’ offensive line is coming off a rough season.
But Carter was the offensive line coach in Tennessee in 2020 when RB Derrick Henry ran for over 2,000 yards, so he must kind of know what he’s doing.
But I’m not here to defend Carter. Clearly, he could have done a better job with the Jets’ line last year, injuries or no injuries.
But perhaps part of the “problem” with Carter is more societal than Carter-related.
Society has become softer, and you are seeing harder-edged coaches like Carter becoming less in style.
Just look at what the Atlanta Falcons just did, deciding not to hire hard-ass Bill Belichick, and instead go with Raheem Morris.
Roughneck head coach Mike Vrabel is having a hard time getting a job.
Many players are more sensitive now than they used to be.
Carter is a tough, demanding coach. He raises his voice a lot.
Society has changed.
So no doubt the Jets’ offensive line needs to improve moving forward, but perhaps some of the criticism of the coach is related to his old-school approach.
