East Rutherford – If Ryan Fitzpatrick was able to be an “emergency” backup, why couldn’t he have come in the game late to try to get a win?
The Jets season was on the brink at 3-6. At 4-6, they are still a major long shot, but they would still be in the wild card race.
So when it was clear Petty wasn’t able to move the team, and it was one three-and-out after another, why not go to Fitzpatrick in the middle of the fourth quarter?
After the game Todd Bowles said one reason was Petty got most of the reps during the week.
Fitzpatrick scored 49 on the Wonderlic. He has a Harvard degree. He can go in for a couple series with limited reps. Believe me.
It was stated that Fitzpatrick was the “emergency” quarterback. Isn’t he specter of your playoff hopes ending an “emergency” situation?
If were running the Jets, Fitzpatrick would have been the quarterback on the last couple of series.
