The Jets coach is playing his hand very well

The last three games, Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett hasn’t done a good job, he’s done a great job.

During this stretch, they lost to Kansas City, and beat Denver and Philadelphia.

Some people will ask – “How can you say a team’s OC has done a great job when a team has had to settle for nine field goals in the last two games, and just two rushing touchdowns (none passing)?”

It’s all about context.

Hackett’s been superb dialing up first-reads for a QB who is mostly a one-read or run QB, and who is still a work-in-progress going through all his progressions.

Just like against Denver and Kansas City, Hackett dialed up many excellent first reads against Philadelphia.

Robert Saleh said recently about their offensive approach now with Hackett and QB Zach Wilson – “It’s more call it, run it.” In other words, less of the mental gymnastics, like the presnap reads and progression scans, that would be expected of Aaron Rodgers.

And Hackett has done an impressive job since the Jets loss to New England, of calling a lot of ideal first reads for his QB, to keep the young signal-caller in his comfort zone.
