With the Achilles injury to safety Antonio Allen, the Jets are giving cornerback Darrin Walls reps at safety.
This move makes a lot of sense.
First of all, he’s very smart, so he can mentally handle toiling at both positions.
Also, he’s a physical player, who isn’t afraid to throw his body around in run support. Walls is tough enough to play safety, one of the most physically demanding positions in the sport.
And perhaps he has a future at the position. He’s a large corner, who has good, not great speed, so a transition to safety might actually be a good career move for him.
