Aaron Rodgers might be 41, but the dexterity he’s displayed moving around the pocket creating time in recent games has been impressive.
“His mobility in the pocket has been outstanding all day,” CBS NFL analyst Trent Green said during the Jets-Miami broadcast.
Here is a perfect example of the niftiness he still has around the pocket from the Miami game:
Early in the second quarter, on the first play of a Jets series, Rodgers avoided edge-rusher Chop Robinson and LB Mo Kamara in the pocket – buying extra time, glided left and hit Garrett Wilson for a 12-yard gain on the left sideline.
One of his better efforts in this regard against Miami was actually on an incompletion, also in the second quarter, when Emmanuel Ogbah burst up the middle and got to Rodgers, and the QB evaded the Dolphins’ defensive end, rolled right and threw to RB Isaiah Davis in the end zone, but the pass fell incomplete.
While Rodgers clearly doesn’t run the 4.7 forty he did coming out of college, his mobility in the pocket is still solid.
“I’ve never been a runner like some of the great athletic guys in the League, even Josh (Allen) in Buffalo I never had his top end speed or his ability to run people over, but I’ve always been able to move around the pocket a little bit and make plays outside the pocket, throw the ball in the run,” Rodgers said. “Last couple of weeks I felt a lot better physically and I feel like I played some better football.”
