He is a real trooper.
Morgan Moses is clearly not healthy, and today when the Jets’ offensive lineman were running sprints, he was lagging way behind.
The right tackle is fighting through a knee issue, but as we mentioned yesterday, it would take an act of congress to keep this guy out of a game.
He’s playing through it, but it’s clearly problematic . . .
Defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi was back practicing today after missing Wednesday with a back ailment. He’s another one of those guys that if it’s humanly possible, he’s playing. He never wants to let his teammates down . . .
The practice kicking competition continued today in Florham Park between Matt Ammendola and Alex Kessman. I can’t give you the stats on this because it takes place during a part of practice the media can’t watch. The picture above is of Kessman going through a bag of footballs picking the balls he was going to kick in today’s competition . . .
Linebacker C.J. Mosley was late coming out to practice today, and when he came out, he was in the rehab area. This is during the half-hour the media gets to watch. He wasn’t listed on the injury report on Wednesday, but remember last week he was listed as “questionable” with a shoulder issue.
I’m not a doctor, but you would have to figure if he had a shoulder issue last week, and played a full football game on Sunday, the shoulder is probably still not 100 percent. Just a guess. If they still had a “probable” category, perhaps he would be listed there, but the NFL got rid of that . . .
Corey Davis is a major long-shot to play this week. He was in the rehab area today, not in uniform, working with a trainer on his injured groin.
When you combine this likely absence with Keelan Cole being on the COVID-19, Zach Wilson and the Jets’ passing attack will likely be down two veteran receivers.
Denzel Mims was back at practice after being on the COVID-19 list, which could help a little, but he’s perhaps not as well-versed on the team’s scheme and route-tree as vets like Davis and Cole, which was an issue early in the season. We will see if he’s reached the level of Davis and Cole on Sunday and whether Wilson can trust him to be exactly where he needs to be.
This isn’t street-yard football. There is a lot of precision involved in NFL passing offenses. You need to run your routes with pinpoint accuracy . . .
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts (ankle) says he’s going to play on Sunday.
This is good and bad news for the Jets.
The good news for the Jets is that he’s not an elite pocket passer who’s going to pick apart their struggling pass defense, which has been an issue all year. Elite passers see the holes and exploit them.
The bad news is that with Hurts at QB, the Eagles run a variation of the Oklahoma option, with a lot of read-options, and chicanery, and we know the Jets defense has had a lot of issues this year “taking the cheese” on misdirection plays . . .
The Jets have had a lot of success signing up advertisers in the gambling sector, with sportsbook sponsors like WynnBet, BetMGM, Fubo on board, and now the newest addition is a company called Jackpocket, a digital lottery app.
“As the NFL’s first digital lottery sponsorship, Jackpocket is proud to partner with the Jets, a New York institution,” said Jackpocket CEO Peter Sullivan. “With 87% of Jets season ticket holders residing in New York or New Jersey, we are excited to introduce this dedicated fanbase to a new, easy way to play for big lottery jackpots right from their phone.” . . .
