Brant Boyer
is a heck of a motivator.
You could probably here his voice bellowing from the practice field driving by the Jets facility on 287.
“Do it again!” is something you hear him yell all the time.
But he has another powerful voice helping him motivate on special teams this year – tight ends coach Ron Middleton.
Middleton comes over to the special teams’ drills a lot and yells words of encouragement to the players.
I don’t understand why Middleton’s name doesn’t come up for heading coach jobs.
He’s a great leader of men . . .
Elijah Moore wasn’t at practice today.
The said he was dealing with a personal matter, but then Ian Rapoport announced the player wants to be traded. Moore is represented by Jimmy Sexton and Tory Dandy.
“Love my teammates!” – he tweeted at 12:16 pm today as the Jets were taking the practice field.
“God makes no mistakes….I trust u through it Allllllll,” Moore tweeted at 11:07 am.
Remember, on Sunday, he was triggered by a tweet from ESPN’s Rich Cimini pointing out that the receiver had no catches in Green Bay.
“If I say what I really wanna say…I’ll be the selfish guy…we winning. Grateful! Huge blessing! All I ever wanted. Butter sweet for me em but I’ll be solid. So I’ll just stay quiet. Just know I don’t understand either.” – Moore tweeted.
So while he need to respect what the team says about him being away to deal with a personal matter, some might wonder after the timing of his absence. Hopefully everything is okay with his family. That is the most important thing.
Like we wrote the other day about him saying, “Just know, I don’t understand either” – I think he does understand.
There is a completion problem. Against Pittsburgh, they were 18-36 passing, so that is obviously just a 50 completion rate, so a lot of ball hit the ground that day.
And then against Miami they were 14-21 passing, and then against Green Bay, they were 10-18.
Some people would say, “Hey, the run-driven approach vs. Green Bay worked.” Obviously it did because they won, but also remember, they were 1-11 on third down, so that contributed to them not having as many offensive plays as they probably should have had.
You know what is a little strange about the Jets’ passing offense the last two games. When you run the ball successfully like they have, it should create great opportunities to throw the ball down the field, but it hasn’t happened much.
For some reason, Moore seemed to have better chemistry with Mike White and Joe Flacco. Remember that Colts on Thursday Night Football in 2021, on a scoring drive in the first quarter:
On the Jets’ second possession, Mike White hits Elijah Moore on a cross, as he got hit, for a gain of 26. Then on the next play, White hit Moore on a 19-yard TD. On this TD throw, White looked right, looked to the center, and then hit Moore on the left side. An impressive display of a QB going through his progression scans.
White left the game after this with an arm injury related to a nerve issue.
In first three games of this season, with Flacco starting for the injured Zach Wilson, Moore had 12 receptions. In the following three games with Wilson starting, Moore hs four receptions.
Not saying that Wilson has anything against Moore. It has more to do with field vision, and the QB often locking on his first read, which usually isn’t Moore.
If Wilson went through his progressions, like White did on the TD in Indy, Moore would likely have more receptions the last three games.
But Wilson tends to lock on his first read. There is no malicious intent here, just something a lot of young quarterbacks tend to do.
However, the solution to his lack of targets would be solved with more completions. Like we mentioned the other day, when you spread the ball around like Buffalo, KC, and Tom Brady (when he had protection), and complete a ton of passes, everybody is happy.
