Phoenix – So will the Jets have a legitimate quarterback competition, unlike last year?
It certainly sounds that way.
However, they don’t plan to split the reps equally between Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick in training camp.
“You can’t have even first team reps with a quarterback,” Bowles said at the Arizona Biltmore on Tuesday morning. “Geno will start out taking them, but that doesn’t mean Ryan can’t take his spot. If Ryan is playing better and performing better, we will have to cross that bridge when we get to it for him to take that position. But to give a quarterback evens reps, I would be sitting here lying if I said they would get equal reps. Geno is going to take reps with the first team. Ryan will take reps with the second team and we will let it play out.”
