What an amazing scouting opportunity the Jets have
with their coaching staff getting the chance to coach one of the team’s in the 2022 Senior Bowl.
With so many draft picks at their disposal (two each in the first, second, fourth and fifth rounds), this will give the Jets’ coaches (and scouts) a great opportunity to get better access to a bunch of college prospects, since they will be coaching them all week in practice and the game. While everyone can see the practices and game, the Jets staff will be the only people in the meetings with their Senior Bowl squad. The 49ers coached at the 2019 Senior Bowl, and their GM John Lynch feels it helped their draft evaluation process.
“(The players) are in a high-stress situation,” said Lynch. “There’s a lot going on, and there’s a lot at stake for all of them. We get to see how they’re going to respond, and we get to do it with the added bonus of being in the meeting rooms.”
The Senior Bowl experience won’t necessarily help the Jets with their two first-round picks. The Jets have two picks in the top ten, and it’s rare that you get top ten prospects at the Senior Bowl, but you do get a lot guys who go in late first round and beyond, so selections like their two premium picks in the second round, also in the top 10, could be aided by coaching in the Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl is using loaded with guys who go in the second round . . .
Many Jets fans were surprised that the team is raising ticket prices an average of 3 percent, coming off a 4-13 season, and 11 straight years out of the playoffs.
Why did they do it?
Because they can.
When you have PSL’s, it creates great leverage for the team. Once you pay, let’s say $10,000 for a personal seat license, which is something you need to do to get a seat in the lower bowl, aside from the ticket cost, are you not going to pay a 3 percentage hike on your tickets? It’s like a timeshare.
In the upper deck, you can just walk away because there are no person seat licenses in those sections, but once you pay for a PSL in the other sections, most people will just deal with a ticket price hike . . .
One thing I heard from a league source is that one issue with Jets ticket sales is their luxury box sales could be better, so perhaps that contributed to his ticket price hike, who knows . . .
The Jets tweeted today from their official Twitter account – “On this day in 1969, we were champions” with a video shot of Joe Namath running off the field in Miami making the #1 sign with his finger.
Maybe I’m not getting something here, but why would you want to remind people you haven’t won a championship in over 50 years?
This didn’t go well based on some of the Twitter responses:
“Why…..just why? Stop reminding us fans that we haven’t sniffed a Super Bowl since then” – tweeted James Porcelly.
“Epic unforgettable moment, sadly they’ve become mostly forgettable since that day in 1969.” – tweeted Donna Spinelli
“I remember it fondly, but c’mon Jets, 53 years is way too long to be living in one single legacy like this.” – tweeted Rob Kingston
There were more.
I just don’t get the idea of bringing attention to the fact that you haven’t won a Super Bowl in 53 years, but what the heck do I know about social media?
I’m not going to lie, the Jets’ Twitter account is an enigma to me.
