Florham Park – It clearly wasn’t his best game.
It happens to the best of them.
Talking about Jets left tackle Tyron Smith, who struggled a little against Buffalo defensive end A.J. Epenesa in the Bills win on Monday over the Jets.
Two examples in the second quarter:
On a third-and-15, Epenesa beat Smith for a sack and the Jets had to punt.
On a third-and-14, Epenesa pushed Smith back into Rodgers, and the QB feeling the pressure, tried to dump a short pass to running back Braelon Allen, that was incomplete, and the Jets had to punt.
It was a little surprising to see Epenesa, who is a decent player, but not considered a dynamic pass rusher, give Smith some problems.
He was also called for holding DE Dawuane Smoot bringing back a TD run by Braelon Allen in the third quarter.
The Jets aren’t concerned with Smith moving forward.
“I don’t have concern with Tyron (Smith),” said Jets offensive play-caller Todd Downing. “He’s an All-Pro level player. He knows how to fix little technique things that come up.”
Downing added: “I believe that he’ll get the necessary adjustments made and we’ll be off and rolling.”
With Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt, perhaps the game’s best pass rusher, set to face off against Green Green on Sunday, Smith will encounter quite a challenge, so superior technique is of the utmost importance.
