Getting these 2 back should help fix an issue from Pitt game

Florham Park – Based on how he played against the Jets, especially in the second half, some people might think Pittsburgh QB Russell Wilson is back to his Seattle form when they were going to Super Bowls.

Maybe, but one factor that can’t be ignored, is that the Jets were without four key players in the secondary, some for the game, some for the second half – starting cornerback D.J. Reed, nickel back Michael Carter and safety Chuck Clark who were inactive, and then starting safety Tony Adams got hurt in the second quarter. Key reserve safety Ashtyn Davis got concussed in the third quarter.

And two plays in the fourth quarter, that certainly impacted the Jets’ ability to come back, were due to coverage mistakes by players forced into action – a TD pass to WR Van Jefferson, and a 36-yard completion to an uncovered WR Calvin Austin.

“To tell you the truth, last week was the first time I had ever been through anything like that in my life,” Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich said. “Virtually every starter and even with Sauce (Gardner) missing a series there, every guy was down.”

So the Jets likely getting Reed and Carter back this week should help their pass defense, which has not been a big problem this year, like their run defense.

They should be okay at safety with veterans Isaiah Oliver and Jalen Mills, but not having Reed and Carter hurt them last week, so their likely returns in Foxboro would be huge for Gang Green.
