A lot of people are saying the Jets’ loss to San Francisco on Monday helped defensive end Haason Reddick’s bargaining position with the team because their defense struggled.
But the Jets’ biggest defensive problem on Monday night was their frightful run defense, which gave up 180 yards rushing, including 147 yards to backup tailback Jordan Mason.
Reddick is not known for his run defense.
When the Philadelphia Eagles signed former Jets defensive end Bryce Huff in March, former NFL defensive lineman Dan Sileo, who hosts the “National Football Football Show” on Jakib Sports in Philadelphia said, “The Bryce Huff signing was a lateral move because in New York he was only on the field 46 percent of the time because he can’t play the run. Reddick is also in the category. All you did was move Reddick’s money to Huff. He’s the same player with less (pass rush) production. He can’t play the run either. Bryce is younger, but Reddick 2.0.”
No doubt Reddick could have helped bring more juice to the Jets’ edge-rush in San Francisco, but probably would not have helped their most egregious problem – their inability to stop the run.
