In his latest mock draft, PFW’s Nolan Nawrocki has the Jets picking UCLA junior outside linebacker Akeem Ayers.
Ayers will likely be there when the Jets pick because he didn’t have exotic sack totals in college (just four sacks last season).
Perhaps his sack totals will go up in the NFL surrounded by more talent, and not being the focal point of opposing offenses.
But one thing we know he could do for the Jets is improve their ability to cover tight ends.
As a sophomore, he had two interceptions he returned for touchdowns, one against Oregon, the other against Temple.
As a junior, he had key interceptions against Houston and Texas, not for touchdowns.
Ayers, from the Watts’ section of Los Angeles, is 6-4, 255 pounds, and it’s projected he has 4.7 speed.
