The New York Jets announced that Jeff Bauer has been named Director of College Scouting and Kevin Kelly has been hired as an area scout.
Bauer is entering his 12th season with the Jets and has spent 11 seasons covering the Midwest. Prior to joining the Jets, Bauer spent 11 years as a high school/middle school football coach, six years in Houston and five years in Overland Park, KS. Bauer received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Iowa State and his master’s degree in administration from Prairie View A&M. He was a four-year letterman at Iowa State from 1987-90, where he played strong safety.
Kelly joins the Jets after spending the last three seasons as an area scout for the Indianapolis Colts (2009-11) and served in the same role with the Cleveland Browns (2001-08). Kelly was the head coach at St. Viator (IL) High School from 1996-00. He also coached at Case Western University (defensive coordinator 1995), John Carroll University (linebackers, 1994), Lake Forest College (defensive line, 1993) and Indiana University (defensive graduate assistant 1989-92). Kelly played at Indiana (1984-87) and the University of Miami (FL) in 1983. Kelly holds a bachelor’s in economics and a master’s degree in sports marketing and management from Indiana University.
