The Jets will not sign free agent wide receiver before the potential player lockout on March 4. The announcement was made by writer Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.
“The Jets and Holmes, due to become a free agent, will not strike a deal before free agency begins, agent Joel Segal said,” wrote Vrentas. “It’s possible the Jets could apply a restricted free agent tender to Holmes in order to protect themselves. But tenders for fifth-year players like Holmes quite possibly could have no effect under a new collective bargaining agreement.”
When the Jets do sign Holmes to a new contract, the contract needs to be laced with behavioral clauses.
Holmes is one strike away from a one-year NFL suspension.
