Kenrick Ellis going to jail #nyj Dan Leberfeld
Jets nose tackle Kenrick Ellis is going to jail. The announcement was made by Brian Costello in the New York Post.
“Kenrick Ellis had his plea agreement accepted in a Virginia court Monday and will serve 45 days in jail, according to his attorney,” wrote Costello. “Timothy Clancy, Ellis’ attorney, said his client entered an ‘Alford’ plea to a misdemeanor count of assault and battery, which is not an admission of guilt but acknowledged there is sufficient evidence against him. He had been charged with malicious wounding for an incident that occurred in April 2010 while he was a student at Hampton University.
“Ellis’ sentence is 179 days in jail, with 89 suspended. In Virginia that time is cut in half, leaving him with 45 days to serve. Clancy said Ellis will report to jail on June 15. The Jets end their minicamp on June 14. That means Ellis will miss at least the first three days of training camp in Cortland, N.Y. with practice starting on July 27.”
The Jets picked Ellis in the third round of the 2011 draft.
