I’m not a big schedule guy.
Kind of old school.
You take it one game at time and you play whoever is next.
Process thinking.
But since it is schedule-release day, I don’t want to be a total party pooper so I will break it down a little.
But I’m not going to get into where and when the games are, but more on the opponents, who knew already, but when you see it in schedule form, it takes on more life.
This is not a hard schedule:
- Week 1 (Sept. 9 at 8:15 p.m.) :Â at San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco is obviously tough, especially with Kyle Shanahan getting four months to game plan.
But after that, wow, so many winnable games, especially with Aaron Rodgers at QB and leading the team, and a much stronger roster.
After San Francisco, the Jets play Tennessee and New England. Both of those teams could be flat-out awful this year.
The owner in Tennessee loves Will Levis, but she also fired one of the NFL’s best coaches – Mike Vrabel and made Ran Carthan the football czar.
This team has train wreck written all over it.
So does New England. They moved on from Bill Belichick, and took down all his slogans form the walls, to go with Jarod Mayo who had four years coaching experience. They picked Drake Maye third overall who didn’t have a good year at North Carolina last year and has major mechanical issues. They could go with Jacoby Brissett early in the year, but he’s best served being a backup. The Patriots look like they could be really bad this year.
Denver and Minnesota both could be starting rookie quarterbacks, and if not rookie quarterbacks, two guys who didn’t work out in Florham Park after being picked high in the first round – Zach Wilson and Sam Darnold.
Other teams after that include Arizona and Indianapolis. The Cardinals are another team that could be pretty bad this year with a 5-10 QB who can’t see from the pocket, and as for the Colts, nobody knows if Anthony Richardson can be a successful NFL QB. He wasn’t great in college, and doesn’t see the field that well right now.
Jacksonville is a very beatable opponent. Five quarterbacks were picked in the first round of the 2021 draft, and four have been traded, including Wilson, and the last first-round pick standing from that group is Trevor Lawrence, and he’s been pretty average. He’s okay, but nothing that special so far. Dinks and dunks a lot.
Man, this schedule is loaded with beatable opponents. There is no excuse for the Jets to miss the playoffs for a 14th straight year.
