The Jets didn’t play their starters in the preseason, so if you believe in starters needing some preseason action to get ready, the Jets’ trip to San Francisco in Week 1, was essentially the preseason action the starters needed to get ready for the season.
Now it would have been hard for the Jets to beat the 49ers on the road even if their starters weren’t rusty after not playing in exhibition games, but with the rust, they had little chance of prevailing against an elite opponent.
So now, with the game action perhaps they needed out of the way, there is no excuse for the Jets – they need to go out and win the next four games.
I know they can’t look at it that way because teams take it “one game at a time,” but I’m allowed to go there.
The next four opponents, Tennessee, New England, Denver and Minnesota, are not on San Francisco’s level, and with the talent on the Jets’ roster, they should be able to win all four games.
Especially with Aaron Rodgers under center. It’s a QB-driven league, and Rodgers is clearly much better than the quarterbacks on each of those four teams.
So now that the Jets starters got the work they needed in a real tackle football game, it’s time for them to go out and get the job done against four beatable opponents.
