There is no way around it, Haason Reddick not being at the team’s OTAs isn’t a good thing.
How else can you spin it?
When the Jets traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for the defensive end on March 29, how many of you thought he’d blow off the team’s off-season program?
When a team acquires a new player in the off-season, you rarely see them not attend their first off-season program with a new club, at least some of it.
After all, they have new teammates/coaches to bond with and get on the same page with. They also have a new playbook to learn.
Two key Jets offensive line additions, veterans Tyron Smith and John Simpson, have been fictures at 1 Jets Drive this off-season.
Most assume Reddick’s absence is contract-related. He is in the last year of a three-year, $45 million deal he signed in Philadelphia in 2022.
Do the Jets think the absence is contract-related?
“I don’t know that,” said Jets coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday.
But here is something many would love to know – When the Jets traded with Philadelphia for the player, was it done with the understanding he would get a new deal?
You would have to think that Joe Douglas talked to CAA before making the trade, to make sure they were on the same page about the player’s contract situation.
Yes, it’s a big deal that Reddick hasn’t been in Florham Park all spring.
