SNY’s Connor Hughes, who had myriad Jets blockbusters this off-season, had another one on Tuesday regarding defensive end Haason Reddick, who is holding out from training camp seeking a new contract.
On April 1, the Jets traded a conditional third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Reddick, but he has never taken the field for the Jets, holding out of the spring camps, and now training camp.
“Before completing that trade, the Jets offered Reddick a contract extension, sources told SNY,” Hughes wrote. “The figures, while a raise, were not what Reddick was looking for, so he declined the offer.”
So if he declined this offer, some might argue you need to hold off from making the trade until the contract situation is resolved.
Why inherit another team’s contract dispute? One of the reasons the Eagles traded Reddick was he wanted a new deal, and they weren’t looking to give him one right now. He has one year left on his current contract.
Joe Douglas has been in the NFL over two decades. This isn’t his first rodeo, and learned from one of the best, former Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome. And for the most part Douglas has been pretty good on the contract front.
There has to be something missing from all we have heard about this Reddick situation.
This just doesn’t pass the smell test.
Douglas traded for another team’s contract mess before resolving it first? It makes no sense.
Definitely looking forward to hearing Douglas’ side of the story on this one when he’s made available to the media.
