Florham Park – The Jets’ offense struggled mightily in their 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
There has been a lot of talk the last few days about how good the Broncos’ defense is, and how you need to give them credit.
No doubt the Broncos have a good defense, but let’s not make them into the 1985 Chicago Bears.
Keep in mind that they recently put two starting linebackers on IR: Alex Singleton and Baron Browning.
“Denver’s defense is good – they’re not great, but they’re good,” said Matt McChesney, a former Jets and Broncos lineman during his weekly spot on Coach Jason Brown’s podcast.
Exactly, they are good, but not the 2000 Baltimore Ravens.
So while the Denver defense deserves some credit for their performance against the Jets, the Jets’ offense deserves more blame, and Jets running back Breece Hall said as much after the game.
“It’s a different feeling when you lose because someone’s better than you, compared to when you lose because you shoot yourself in the foot a million times,” Hall said.
For instance, the Jets gave up five sacks, 13 QB hits, and committed five false starts.
So while coordinator Vance Joseph does a heck of a job coaching Denver’s defense, and his unit played well on Sunday, the Jets need to be careful not to hang their hat on Denver’s defensive prowess as being the reason they struggled.
The Jets offensive played poorly most of the game, and have myriad things to fix before they face the Minnesota Vikings in London.
