Here we go again. Time for another “grain of salt” alert. We talked about this last week, and it’s now happened again in another city.
Remember last week when you wrote about ESPN’s Ron Jaworski and what he said about Geno Smith.
“I like the future of the Jets with Geno Smith at quarterback,” Jawarski said in an interview with the Jets website.
Perhaps this is true, but it’s really hard to say that right now. He still has to prove that.
Like we said at the time, when it comes to network personalities doing interviews with team websites, it’s a different song list than a regular concert, so to speak.
They tend to be more Pollyanna. When was the last time a network personality went on a team website and ripped the team? And if they did, the interview likely wouldn’t air.
Well, here we go again.
Jaworski did an interview with the Buffalo Bills website this week.
“Yes, it’s a playoff team to me,” said on the team’s official website. “The Buffalo Bills will be a playoff team. There will be great energy coming to Western New York once again.”
And this was viewed as news all over the internet.
Stop the presses!
How can you predict the Bills are going to make the playoffs when we don’t even know if they have an answer at quarterback?
This is a quarterback-driven league.
So we don’t even know if they have a viable answer at quarterback, and “Jaws” is saying they are going to the playoffs.
Hey, I understand what he’s doing. “Jaws” is from Western New York, and he’s trying to excite the people up there.
But with that being said, how do websites all over the internet link to this story and act like it’s news? Have we lost our news judgement?
I’m not ready to anoint the Bills a playoff team, and it’s not just about their quarterback position.
There are questions marks on their offensive line, and honestly, I don’t love their starting corners – Stephon Gilmore and Leodis McKelvin. They are okay, but I don’t view this as one of the better combos in the league. I’ve never been big on McKelvin, and Gilmore is probably a #2 corner.
Obviously the Bill Front Seven is going to be good.
But what is next on this tour – The Dolphins are going to the Super Bowl?
Once again, like I said last week, I don’t alter my playlist based on the show I’m on.
I was on ESPN Radio in New York, the Jets flagship station, and said the Jets overpaid Darrelle Revis and were bidding against themselves. Hey, I think it’s a good signing, but who were they really bidding against when you really break it down?
I’m not acting like “Johnny Journalist” but I can’t stand how the line has been blurred between what is real reporting and what is propaganda.
I think there is a generation coming up now that is probably confused.
